Hello there.
I'm Dave Carey. I make furniture, crafts, and messes.
I grew up in New England, where my grandfather Eastman Tuttle, a professional carpenter and woodworker, first got me interested in working with my hands. After studying film at Emerson College, I moved to Los Angeles and spent a number of years working in the film business before pivoting to a career in web design and development.
When Covid hit, I was laid off and found myself at another crossroads. A friend, knowing I was out of work and 'pretty handy,' asked if I could build her a desk to work on from home. A few weeks later she had a nice little mid-century modern desk. She was happy and I was hooked. And just like that, Eastman Handmade was born.
Since then, I've been designing and building custom indoor and outdoor furniture for homes across Southern California. Every piece starts with a conversation and ends with something built to last.
